A traffic accident on the ramp of Interstate 35 just north of Highway 123 in San Marcos resulted in the death of 20-year-old San Antonio resident Martin Valdivia Jr., FOX 29 reported on January 20.
The accident occurred around 6 a.m. when a wooden toolbox fell from the Valdivias’ trailer onto the northbound lanes of I-35. Martin Valdivia Jr. and his father, Martin Valdivia Sr., 54, pulled over to the side of the road. When they attempted to retrieve the toolbox, an oncoming Chevrolet Tahoe swerved to avoid hitting the box and instead crashed into the two pedestrians. Valdivia Jr. was killed at the accident site, while Valdivia Sr. was brought to the Central Texas Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.
The oncoming vehicle was operated by San Antonio local Norbuerto Ruelas-Reyas. Police authorities are conducting further investigation into the crash to determine the details surrounding the accident. Charges have yet to be filed against Ruelas-Reyas.
