61-year-old man dies in a collision with an 18-wheeler in San Antonio
A two-vehicle collision between a car and an 18-wheeler resulted in the death of an individual and the closure of the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 at Rittiman Road on the Northeast Side in San Antonio, Texas for nearly five hours following the fatal accident on Thursday, July 16 at around 9:30 a.m.
According to San Antonio Police Department Sergeant Fidel Acosta, the driver of the 18-wheeler, who was driving in the center lane heading southbound, said he saw a small car near his right prior to the accident. A few moments later, he felt something hit his trailer so he suddenly hit the brakes, causing the semi truck to jack-knife across the road.
The Chevrolet Cobalt was found wedged underneath the trailer of the truck. The driver of the car, who had been identified as 61-year-old Michael Hill by the Bexar County Medical Examiner, was declared dead at the scene of the accident.
