Oklahoma rep. James Paul Lankford, the chairman of a subcommittee under the House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, believes more stringent measures need to be enforced in regards to Social Security disability, the MetroNews reported on July 10.
All workers put money into social security in case there comes a day when they are no longer able to work. Lankford said people who fraudulently declare disability are cheating the truly disabled out of the money they need to live.
The statement is an offshoot of recent findings that administrative Social Security disability judges have been approving the vast majority of disability claims. This includes West Virginia judge Harry Taylor, who approved 94% of the claims he handled between 2005 and 2011.
