Erroneously Approved Disability Claims Cost Taxpayers $2B Over Seven Years

The Social Security Administration’s Office of the Inspector General has found out in a report that 44 Social Security judges have erroneously approved disability claims for almost 25,000 people in the United States. According to the SSA, these recipients are not qualified for said benefits and have cost taxpayers $2 billion.

The judges were described as “outliers” for they approved 85% of the claims they handled in at least two of the seven years.

The price tag for taxpayers is expected to grow by as much as $300 million this year due to many of the people getting said benefits still receive them today, the report noted.
