A new report from the Social Security Administration’s Office of the Inspector General showed that at least 6.5 million active Social Security numbers must be fraudulent, as they represent people who are aged 112 and over, CNN reported on March 16.
According to the Gerontology Research Group, as of 2013, only 35 people in the whole world had reached the age of 112. Clearly, people are taking advantage of the Social Security system.
The report noted that nearly 67,000 people filed tax records between the years of 2006 and 2011 with names on the earnings reports that did not match the names associated with their Social Security number. Earnings on these tax returns amounted to around $3.1 billion in income.
In spite of people who take advantage of the Social Security system, the attorneys at the Chris Mayo Law Firm know that many San Antonio residents legitimately need the support provided by disability benefits. Call our offices at (210) 899-5440 today to learn more about beginning the filing process.
