Woman Facing Jail Time for Cashing Social Security Checks of Dead Man

Seventy-eight-year-old Shreveport, Louisiana resident Rose Marie Jackson Allen is facing up to 10 years in prison for cashing the Social Security disability checks sent to Thomas Jackson, a man who has been dead for around 30 years.

According to court documents, Allen received the checks because she and Jackson shared a P.O. box, but the relationship between Jackson and Allen was not revealed by the court. Allen endorsed the checks with Jackson’s name and her own and cashed them at a nearby grocery and liquor store. The United States Attorney’s Office reported that Allen will face sentencing on Sept. 8, 2016 after making a guilty plea on Wednesday, May 4 to theft of government property. Jackson’s 1986 death was not discovered by the Social Security Administration until 2015. Allen collected over $200,000 in fraudulent disability benefits.
