Gravedigger fraudulently collects over $100K in disability checks
Fifty-nine-year-old Alice, Texas resident Guatemozin Garcia will face jail time after collecting Social Security disability benefit checks while he was employed as a grave digger, KRIS TV reported on August 28.
According to investigations made by Social Security Administration agents, several people hired Garcia between 2008 and 2013 to maintain grave sites and prepare gravesides for funeral arrangements, but he never declared this income while collecting Social Security disability benefits. Garcia’s sentencing will be conducted in December. He is in danger of serving five years of imprisonment for receiving $148,043 in fraudulent benefits.
The reason Garcia collected Social Security benefits was for being unable to work due to back problems.
