Inspirational football player dies in two-vehicle collision

 In Auto Accident

Dennis Byrd, a football defensive end and defensive tackle for the New York Jets, was able to walk again after a life-changing game on Nov. 29, 1992. He broke his neck after crashing into his teammate’s chest to avoid a sack, causing him to be paralyzed and making him an inspiration to fans of football, young and old alike.

However, on October 16, he was killed in a two-vehicle collision at around 11 a.m. between Oologah and Claremont in Rogers County, Oklahoma. He was 50 years old when he died. Tulsa’s athletic director, Derrick Gragg, said of Byrd: “Dennis exemplified true determination, tremendous heart, and humility all throughout his life. He overcame great personal adversity after a life-altering injury on the football field.”
