Social Security disability payments are set to be restored to hundreds of people in Eastern Kentucky, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader on June 4.
The benefits were suspended as the agency is investigating the validity of their claims. However, Rep. Kentucky representative Hal Rogers met with members of the SSA to request the restoration of benefits as they do so. Because they were suddenly removed, the families who lost the benefits were suffering hardship. New benefits would not be issued until over a year later.
The families whose benefits are set to be reinstated will still need to prove that they are truly eligible to receive them.
