Twenty-nine-year-old Port Arthur, Texas resident Brandy Lee Purkey was killed after being struck down by a vehicle while trying to cross the highway in Bridge City last Wednesday, May 7.

Police investigators said Purkey walked into the westbound lane on Texas 73, just south of the LaQuinta Inn, and was hit by a Dodge van followed by a Ford pickup truck.

Bridge City police officials said they responded to the crash site at around 2:40 a.m. They said the road traversing the Rainbow Bridge had been closed to traffic for about three hours while police investigators conducted an accident reconstruction scene and emergency medical responders cleared the area.
