Social Security Administration rejects debt collection program

 In Social Security Disability

The Social Security Administration is halting the implementation of a program that would seize tax refunds from over a thousand people in order to earn back Social Security debt from decades ago.

On Monday, April 14 acting Social Security Commissioner, Carolyn Colvin, said that she would immediately halt the program. The program is paused while the agency evaluates which course of action would be the most beneficial to Social Security recipients.

The debt collection program was drafted after the SSA received complaints from people that are paying into the social security program. Younger generations will not be able to collect the same benefits as older generations.

Individuals who find themselves out of work due to a debilitating condition or disease have the option to apply for Social Security disability benefits in order to support themselves and or family.
