Social Security beneficiaries to receive $3.92 increase in checks next year

 In Social Security benefits

Social Security benefit recipients will receive an additional $3.92 – or an increase of 0.3% – per Social Security check in 2017. Such an increase marks one of the lowest increases that benefit recipients have ever experienced.

An average Social Security benefit recipient’s monthly check is about $1,305.30. Social Security benefits did not receive any increase at all this year. Social Security benefit recipients can have greater benefits depending on their earning history and how old they were when they first started getting their checks. A person retiring at full retirement age receives a maximum benefit of $2,629 per month – this amount will increase by a mere $7.92 next year.
