The future of Social Security in the hands of a new President
Unless the United States Congress puts forth legislation to extend the lifespan of monthly Social Security benefits, its recipients will receive 21% less than their full benefits starting in 2034.
Unfortunately, this year’s presidential candidates have yet to propose a concise and concrete plan to address this issue. For instance, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton wants to expand the Social Security benefits program to cover widows and caregivers. This proposal would actually take more money away from current recipients if other income-generating initiatives are not put in place. For his part, businessman and television personality Donald Trump has yet to come up with proposals for Social Security benefit programs.
