Woman sentenced to a year of imprisonment for stealing Social Security benefits

 In Social Security benefits

Forty-year-old Wilmington, Delaware resident Rachel Woodall was sentenced to one year of imprisonment for embezzling over $140,000 from her disabled sister.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Woodall was ordered to pay restitution in federal court in Wilmington on Monday, December 5 at the sentencing. Court documents showed that Woodall was handling the finances of her intellectually disabled sister and eventually embezzled the money from her. The sister obtained huge amounts in back payments from Social Security in November 2014, which is when Woodall started stealing her money, documents said.

After making a guilty plea on the charge of conversion of Social Security benefits in January 2016, prosecutors said Woodall still made withdrawals from her sister’s bank account.
